The Storytelling Impact
I produced a series of videos for School Plus’ annual fundraiser and gala to champion young athletes and spotlight the organization’s critical role in supporting co-curricular programs. With California schools facing deep cuts to state funding, essential programs—sports, drama, music, and the arts—are increasingly at risk. Our goal was to tell a story that not only raised awareness, but moved donors to action.
I crafted interview questions and narrative arcs that highlighted the dreams, challenges, and resilience of students, coaches, and community members. By grounding the videos in authentic, emotionally resonant stories, the fundraising campaign reinforced why these programs matter: they give young people a pathway to excellence, a space for expression, and a foundation for confidence and self-worth.
School Plus has already contributed more than $9 million to Santa Rosa schools, enriching the lives of thousands of students. These videos helped amplify that mission, demonstrating how storytelling can fuel community investment and keep transformative programs alive.
Filming
All interviews were filmed on-site at Santa Rosa High School, where I directed both the interview process and all on-location production. My approach focused on creating an environment where each participant felt comfortable, authentic, and empowered to share their story—allowing the heart of the organization’s impact to shine through on screen.
